This one lost a star due to the changes.ġ. Other than that, so far they seem to work pretty much the same. This version has some differences that I've noticed so far that are cons as far as I can see. It is still working well so I decided to purchase another and found this one at a decent price. In 2012, I purchased another version of this MP3 player SA4VBE08K/37, the same thing without the F in the model number. Supposedly, there's an inline amplifier you can buy to boost the sound, but I don't see the point.
PHILIPS GOGEAR MP3 PLAYER SA4VBE08KF PATCH
I run a patch out of the headphone jack into the audio-input on a Sony portable box. I use the Vibe solely for guitar practice. If you think your going to hear Erik Satie or Copland's Appalachian Spring on the Vibe, forget it, 'cause that ain't happening. I've wasted hours and hours using Audacity to manipulate the audio gain in an attempt to make the music (files) louder (without clipping and distortion), but that hasn't been working out so well. I have 52 years, 10 years active-duty in the Army, a combat vet, and I don't need Philips being my mommy telling me how loud to listen to music. I bought this thing because it holds a lot of music and videos (and it really does hold a lot), I need this music to calm me down, but it isn't going to calm me down if I can't even hear the music. My Alcatel 'Droid is louder than the Vibe. You cannot hear the music when the person next to you is talking into their cell-phone. If you happen to be riding a bus or subway, the Vibe is totally useless. If you happen to be stuck on an night, this thing is okay. Sure, a little thing pops and tells you what letter you're scrolling through, but that's hardly adequate. On the Vibe I have to scroll through every single file. On my Sony if I want to listen to Isley Brothers or Genesis or Rush I just flip over to the appropriate letter and select the song or album. Nothing is grouped Alpha-Numerically on the Vibe. The Vibe is difficult (but not impossible) to accidentally turn on, so that battery isn't wasted. So it gets turned on in my pockets of my pants or jacket or any tote-bag I'm carrying and burns up the battery time. One problem with my Sony that affects battery life, is that it's too easy to turn the Sony on. The engineering design for user controls is superior to my Sony. The battery life is quite good, a little better than my Sony. It rapidly charges the battery, faster than my Sony. I tossed it in the trash a few weeks ago. Couldn't add/delete music, and then it stopped charging and then it gave up the electrons. As of this "Edit" the NotGoingAnywhereGEAR Vibe is in a landfill (somewhere).
